Market Linkage and Off taking
Market Linkage and Off taking
Agricultural markets face numerous
challenges, including issues related to
infrastructure, market access, price
volatility, climate change, quality control,
among others. These factors can significantly
impact farmers' incomes and the
overall efficiency of the food supply chain
To ensure successful agricultural markets,
SIDA SEEDS Limited employ a number of
strategies focusing on increasing market
access, improving market information,
enhancing value addition, and fostering
collaboration.
Strengthen Market Infrastructure: We invest in improving storage facilities, transportation networks, aggregation points, irrigation systems and market information systems to reduce post-harvest losses and facilitate efficient trade.
Promote Value Addition and Processing: We encourage farmers to process their produce (e.g., drying, packaging) to increase shelf life and market value. We also process and add value to some of the products we buy from the farmers.
Contract Farming. We always secure contracts with buyers to ensure stable prices and a market for produce, especially for our smallholder farmers; thereafter we support farmers to also produce on contract basis to meet the marker requirements
Technology Adoption: Utilize digital platforms for market information, weather updates, and farm management techniques.
Market Information Systems: Provide farmers with access to timely and relevant market information, including price fluctuations and demand trends.
Diversification: Encourage farmers to diversify their crops and marketing strategies to reduce reliance on single products and markets
Financial Access and Literacy: We educate farmers on financial management and access. We also support the farms to ensure that their farms are insured
Build Partnerships: We collaborate and also facilitate collaboration between farmers, agribusinesses, NGO’s, research institutions, and government agencies.
Embrace Climate-Smart Agriculture: WSIDA SEEDS Limited also implements measures to adapt to climate change and mitigate its effects on agricultural production.
